About the Owner Karissa Dean:
After spending a childhood dancing and competing in the Gresham area at Body and Soul, as well as Deborah Messinger. Karissa joined her High School Dance Team her Junior year becoming a captain Senior year.
Karissa went on to college and continued dancing at Western Oregon University, becoming captain & choreographer of the Western Dance Team. She spent many hours in the studio with the staff at Western Oregon University taking a keen interest in dancing safely and understanding the anatomy of a dancer’s body.
After some tough anatomy and kinesiology work, Karissa took her dance degree back to Portland and started working right away. She joined Kinetic Images, a modern dance company and started teaching at Tualatin Dance Center and Spotlight Performing Arts. In addition to her studio work, Karissa has coached and choreographed for many local High School dance teams, as well as judging for OSAA/JA. Karissa is a current member with AL Dancers, a modern dance company in Portland Oregon.
Focusing on continuing her education Karissa has participated in multiple intensives and workshops, her favorites being Paul Taylor in New York City, and the Dance Teacher Summit in New York City. A highlight of her dancing career is participating in the 100 year anniversary of Nijinsky “Rite of Spring” with AL Dancers. She has had the opportunity to perform throughout the US and Mexico. Karissa is thrilled to share her love for dance with the students at her studio.
About Samantha Bredahl LaVine
Sam started dancing at the age of 9 at Deborah Messinger School of Dance in Gresham, OR. After years of ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical classes, she was invited to join their competitive preforming group. In high school she joined the dance team at Gresham High School for her 4 years there. After graduation Sam, taught at various local dance studios before being hired back on at Gresham High School as the Junior Varsity dance team coach. While coaching she realized her passion for teaching and after two years of coaching, decided to go back to college for dance. Sam will graduate in June of 2014 from Western Oregon University with a Bachelors of Arts in Dance with a minor in Physical Education. Sam has also been a certified Zumba instructor since June 2013 and is working on her ACE certification to be able to offer more aerobic dance classes.
